Primary Secondary Apprenticeships

APPLY

Step 1: Check your eligibility

What minimum qualifications do I need to train as a secondary teacher?

  • GCSE grade C (grade 4) or above in English and Maths, or its equivalent.

  • 3rd Class Honours degree or above, or its equivalent.

Degree subject should match or be closely related to the course subject. If not wholly relevant, then we could consider your application if you have an A-level in this subject, a relevant postgraduate qualification, or substantial career experience

If you are unsure if you meet these criteria, please contact us.

  • A satisfactory enhanced DBS check which we would arrange prior to the beginning of the course.

What happens if I don’t have all the GCSEs I need?

The SCITT can support you in accessing an equivalency test which will give you what you need for Maths or English GCSE. We will direct you to our preferred test provider once you have successfully gained a place on the course.

If all or some of your qualifications were obtained outside of the UK, we can check to see if you need to go through ENIC, who are able to check whether your qualifications are comparable to those from the UK.

If you have any further questions please contact us.

Step 2: Take time to think about the subject you would like to teach

A full list of the subjects we offer can be found here.

A good understanding of the subject knowledge is required for teaching your chosen subject. This can be shown through a relevant degree and/or your A-Level or Level 3 qualifications.

Talk to us if you are unsure about what subject you can train in. You may be offered a free subject knowledge enhancement course.

Step 3: Apply for a course

Below, you can find the selection of subjects and placement partners which are open for applications.

Different placement partners work in different regions of Bradford and Leeds, and we'll do our best to take your preference into account when selecting your training schools.

The links will take you to the official national pages for Postgraduate Teacher Training, where you can complete your application.
